I would definitely suggest that you get some of those. At first I kept them on to protect the flash unit, but later scrapped that idea and bought the metal flash tube protectors. In my opinion, due to their size they don't diffuse the light very much, but they do cut the light output and slightly change the white balance. Consider not using the plastic diffusers that attach to the standard reflector.
It's a beefy unit and you'll be inviting trouble. Don't mount the strobe on the hot shoe of your camera. It is for that reason that I recommend buying them from Adorama, which enrolls you into their Cust Service System. Nikon D700 using Radio popper Jrx synced nice upto 1/160, at 1/200 very minor black shadow at the bottom of the screen but I can use it upto 1/200 sec outdoor to beat the sun, but at 1/250 visible black shadow bar and at 1/320 s (my HS FP sync setting) the black bar at the bottom of the frame is so strong that its unusable. BTW: (I am testing Streaklight 360 model not 180 model) So I am surprised AB1600 reports 640 WS and Streaklight reports 360 WS but both have equal output in a reflector Its even more interesting, Streaklight claims this as GN262 whereas it measure GN160 only.

Here is my test results on the day I received it.ĪB1600 at full power in 7 inch std reflector - Sekonic 元08s light meter, ISO 100 at 10 feet measured aperture approx f/16 i.e GN155 that closely matches with GN 160 listed at PCB spec. While I am sold on good build quality, nice packing, reasonable power and very affordable price, here is my comparison with AB1600 & SB800.
